The classic 90° zig-zag
Herringbone is assembled from boards cut at 90° that overlap in a stepped arrangement, forming the recognisable zig-zag. Boards are 135 or 150 mm wide and 500, 600 or 700 mm long, which gives a denser, finer rhythm than chevron. The high number of joints makes the floor read as richer and more textured.
Where herringbone looks best
It is used most in living rooms, dining rooms and spaces with a showpiece role, and in renovated older flats where the original pattern is being brought back. In deep brown tones it feels opulent; in light and grey shades, modern and restrained.
Made to measure
Before production we agree the thickness (12 or 13 mm), the board format and the grading. Natural gives a more even look, rustic more pronounced knots, while a brushed surface further emphasises the texture. The protection is oiled (Rubio Monocoat) or lacquered, in one of 25 shades.
